I’m a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Medical School. I work with Dr. Bruce Spiegelman at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, funded by the Human Frontier Science Program.
I also collaborate with Dr. Mike Murphy and Dr. Thomas Krieg and in the Department of Medicine and the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit in Cambridge. I'm a recent Ph.D graduate from the University of Cambridge, and a Gates Cambridge Scholar generously funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
My research focuses on deciphering the molecular mechanisms of metabolic disease and dysfunction, and using this information to develop targeted therapeutic strategies. As we age the form and function of our cells is diminished, leading to decreased quality of life and increased risk of death. Dysfunction in a particular cellular locale – the mitochondrion – is implicated in much of this pathology. My work to date has focused on elucidating mechanisms of damage and protection within mitochondria that are critical to outcomes of major killers, with specific focus on the heart and adipose tissue.
